Pole Barn & Post-Frame Cost Guide
General education only. Builders quote each project individually after reviewing your site and plans.
What drives the price
- Size and height: footprint, sidewall height and roof pitch
- Enclosure: open, partly enclosed or fully enclosed
- Doors and windows: number, size and type (roll-up, sliding, overhead)
- Floor: gravel or dirt vs. a concrete slab
- Insulation and interior: liner panels, condensation control, finish work
- Site work: clearing, grading, drainage and access
- Engineering and permits: required plans and fees vary by county
- Material prices: steel and lumber costs move over time
Typical industry ranges (broad, not a quote)
National cost guides commonly describe basic pole barn shells in the low tens of dollars per square foot. Insulated garages, finished shops and barndominium shells with concrete floors run considerably higher. Fully finished barndominiums often cost several times more than a basic shell. These are rough, general industry figures that vary widely. They are not a quote from us or from any builder.
The only reliable number is a written quote for your building on your site. Call or request one; it's free.
Ways to control cost
- Choose standard widths and lengths
- Start with a shell and finish the interior later
- Plan lean-tos now so you can add them later
- Prepare the site early
